shay sorrells biggest loser is on mamavation tv tonight!

I absolutely loved Shay when I watched Biggest Loser two seasons ago and I was thrilled when subway helped her to continue her success by giving her $1000 per pound she lost which they awarded her at the finale this past season.

Shay is an inspiration to many other women and men out there.  She's a mom of two small children.  She spent time in foster care growing up where she met many of her demons which pushed forward her weight gain, and the pain of her mother and the things her mother did to her while she grew up.

Shay started biggest loser as the largest female contestant ever at 467lbs.  She even almost gave up on herself the first day and quit but Jillian Michaels helped her see the tough road ahead would be worth it.  At the ranch she shed 172lbs and she is the perfect example as her journey continues that through blood, sweat and tears the human spirit can strive for excellence in ones self.

Tonight Shay is going to be on Mamavation TV to answer your questions.  This is totally exciting!  To join in the fun and watch the show please go here http://www.rantsnrascals.com/search/label/mailbox%20monday

Thanks to Bookieboo for sending this out to me to remind me of this fantastic live show tonight and I hope everyone takes advantage of watching.

summer movies set to be blockbusters!

Bite me off a piece of that!

PRINCE OF PERSIA
Release Date May 28th

Okay I'm a mom of boys and one of them is named Gamer for a reason lol.  All three of my guys in the house of Shaw love video games and especially Prince of Persia, a strange video game that takes a prince, a girl and sets them off on incredible adventures.  Well now the movie is coming to the big screen and this gamer mom cannot wait to see it!  Starring Jake (Yummy Gyllenhaal) and Gemma Arterton.  This movie will be packed with excitement, romance, action and is sure to be a ton of fun.

20th Century Fox
THE A-TEAM
Release Date June 11, 2010

I grew up watching the A-team with my brothers.  I loved B.A. played by (Mr. T) back then and Murdock who was so adorable.  When we went to Disneyland I will never forget all of us having our picture taken with the van.  Well now the popular 80's show is being brought to big screen and of course I want to see it, though I'm afraid like G.I. Joe and other tv shows or comics I might be disappointed.  But time will tell.  The movie has tons of action and some pretty great stars in Liam Nesson, Bradley Cooper, Patrick Wilson and Jessica Biel.

Columbia Pictures

THE KARATE KID
Release Date June 11th, 2010

I already wrote a post about this wonderful remake of the original which starred Pat Morita and Ralph Macchio.  This time around Will & Jada Smiths son Jaden Smith teams up with Jackie Chan in this classic tale about a boy who grows up in a different area and has to find his way to fit in and face his fears.  It looks amazing in the clips I've seen and I am looking forward to taking my kids to see this film.

Disney / Pixar
TOY STORY 3
Release Date June 18, 2010

Tom Hanks and Tim Allen come alive on the big screen nearly eleven years after the Pixar blockbuster released and this time the toys are in 3D.  Andy is heading off to collage and Buzz and Woody and the gang must deal with losing him and finding their way in a new home in none other than a very busy Daycare Center.  Sure to bring lots of laughs and reunite us with our old pals and antics.  The gang decides to break out.  Where they will go nobody knows but I'm headed to the theater to see this one for sure!  Kids or no kids.

20th Century Fox

KNIGHT AND DAY
Release Date June 25, 2010

I am not a huge Tom Cruise fan but I love Cameron Diaz and apparently this movie is something everyone is talking about.  It's another blow up, action, comedy style romantic flick that has a bit of a Bird on the Wire element to it as the two lead characters must pair up and work together to get themselves out of a big mess.  I'm not really interested in seeing this but check it out.  You might like it.  The clips make me giggle so that's something right?

Columbia Pictures / Sandler production of course

GROWN UPS
Release Date June 25, 2010

What do you get when you combine some of the funniest men in Hollywood?  You get David Spade, Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Rob Schneider and Chris Rock as a bunch of middle aged friends who come together for a weekend reunion after the death of their high school basketball coach and I am guessing tons of laughs.  I have yet to see a commercial for this but I'm in Canada so we are slow to show.  I might not check it out at the theater but will definitely keep my eyes peeled for reviews to see how funny these funny men together can be.

Summit Entertainment
TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE
Release Date June 30, 2010

Okay if you are a TWiMom like me you cannot wait to see this film!  Steamy Robert Pattison and Taylor Lautner are enough to make even this 30 ahem something mom drool at the corner in this vamp chronicle that has taken the world by storm.  Twilight Eclipse continues the romance of Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward (Pattison) picking up hopefully where it left off in New Moon with Edward proposing to Bella, a condition he has before turning her into a vampire.  An army is rising against them and Bella struggles with her feelings for Edward and is torn with her love for her best friend Jacob (Taylor Lautner).  I am geared for opening night!

Warner Bros Pictures
INCEPTION
Release Date July 16, 2010

I saw a clip for this the other day and WOW is all I can say.  Leo has done it again and I want to see this creative Sci-Fi Thriller.  Leonardo DiCaprio plays a property thief who kinda sneaks into peoples dreams to steal their creative ideas.  Now if only we could do that with our kids, our jobs would be sooooooo much easier.  Joseph-Gordon Levitt (3rd Rock) stars as his associate and Ellen Page whom I loved in Juno plays a collage girl learning the tricks of the trade.  This one definitely looks high voltage and fun!

Columbia Pictures
EAT PRAY LOVE
Release Date Aug 13, 2010

If you missed Oprah's interview with the amazing Oscar sensation Julia Roberts covering this film you missed out.  I myself have the read the wonderful novel written by Elizabeth Gilbert an amazing author and now Miss Julia is bringing the wonderful memoir of enlightenment and journey to the big screen.  Julia stars as a magazine writer who travels to Italy, Bali and India where she eats, prays and finally loves discovering so much about herself as a woman.  This movie is sure to put Julia in contention for another Oscar and I cannot wait to see it.

g.i. joe family night was fun

Okay so yeah it's Friday night and we decided this Friday it was family night in the Shaw household which means  hanging out together.  We try as often as we can between hockey, PB's appointments with Child Development, FD (Forgetful Dad's) stuff, me blogging, cleaning, cooking, paying bills and all the other crap that goes into family life, to sit down together at least once a week and have some share time.

This Friday it was a special event.  G.I. Joe Rise of the Cobra.  Yeah I know but that's what I get living with 3 testosterone males.  Chick flicks aren't allowed unless I stay up until 3am by myself while they snore.  So it's either Action or War movies... yeah me!

I had no idea what to expect when watching G.I. Joe.  I know it's a comic.  I never actually watched it growing up.  I was more a Spidey girl myself... YUM!  So yeah I started watching this movie about war heroes who are part of an elite ops group known as the Joe's.  And guess what they do?  They fight bad guys who want to do bad things to the world and save the day!

Here's a breakdown of some of the characters.

Duke is a sexy army guy who has a thing for his ex g/f who he promised to protect her brother but failed and so she became bad and tried to kill the world which messed with his head and he set out to save her from herself.

Ripcord is hilarious and easy going and immediately falls in love with another female Joe who only likes non-emotional men.

Snake-eyes never speaks and is a ninja who goes against Storm-chaser another ninja who is his brother and killed their father and hate each other.

I could go on but basically this movie is a blow up action flick and everyone has issues.  I mean everyone.  I actually felt better by the end of it thinking shit my life is a piece of cake compared to these poor saps.  Mind you they get to blow up shit for fun which is kinda cool.  The best part was a three minute segway with the YUMMY and DELICIOUS Brendan Frasier - (for me anyhow) sorry FD.

G.I. Joe is an okay movie with tons of action.  Whether it's similar to the comic or not I have no idea, FD says it was pretty close, but if you are in for a ride with high voltage action sequences this blow up style movie entertainment will excite you so give it a once around.

oprah introduces us to the smith family on her show today

I love Oprah, especially when she has one of my favorite movie stars on - Will Smith graced the show today with his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith, their children Trey, Willow and Jaden and their extended family, Will's ex-wife, her husband, grandparents and family.

Oprah talks to the Smith family not just about their acting as both Will and Jada are big named movie stars, but how raising their family in the business affects them and how they do it, with all the pressures and stress that goes along with acting and being Hollywood parents.

I found a lot of what both mom and dad (Will & Jada) said about their love life, marriage and the goals they want for their kids incredible!  It was totally neat to listen to them talk as many of us think big named movie stars are out of our league, have it easy or are spoiled.  But the Smith family is a regular family with blessings.

Will Smith states: He wants his children to strive for an excellence that both he and his wife know they cannot give their kids as it has to come from within, but it's their job to help their children realize their potential, push for that excellence to give more of themselves so the people they meet in their lifetime are inspired.

That is what we all want, don't we really?  For our kids?  For them to be productive members of society, give of themselves and give to others so they can make a difference in the world.

Oprah showed a clip of Will at the almost the same age his oldest son Trey is, nineteen, he was singing "Parents just don't understand." rap song.

Oprah asked Will what he has learned now he didn't know back then and Will replied...  "Parents don't have to understand they are in charge."

Will and Jada's son Jaden who starred with Will in The Pursuit of Happiness a few years back (an incredible movie by the way) is starring in the remake of the Karate Kid which is produced by both Will and Jada together.  The Smith family moved to China for four months to shoot the film, also starring Jackie Chan so that Jaden could train for the role.  The movie opens in June 2010.  A clip is below.

Asked about their careers:  Will tells his children to think about one thing:  When you choose a role you have to think is the person watching this, a grandmother, mother, father, child going to be a better person coming away from the experience and enjoy themselves.
I cannot wait to see this film.  There are a lot of Youtube haters and other bloggers commenting on the fact the lead role is being played by an African American which totally disgusts me.  Ralph Macchio who originally starred in the role was Italian, nobody said shit about it.  This is a classic remake and one that will be fun for the whole family, teaching kids about confidence, standing up for themselves and facing their problems instead of running away.

When asked by an audience member of Oprah how they (The Smith's) deal with punishments for bad behavior in their family.  Will Smith stated this:

"We don't believe in punishment, there are consequences to your actions.  You can have as much freedom as you want, cut your hair, color it, have your room the way you want, go out, as much freedom as you can handle but as soon as you do something that is detrimental to yourself and you can't be trusted with your freedom you are pulled back.  It's not about punishing, it's about protecting you from the damage you can do to yourself..."
Will Smith's oldest son Trey could not go with the family to China for the four months.  Will flew back every weekend to see his son Trey who plays football out on the field because he couldn't be on the trip with them.  That's amazing!

As the show went on Oprah discusses the journey Will and Jada took together as parents and coworkers working on this film and how difficult it was for them.  Jada states:  They go over many hurdles by realizing their strengths and weaknesses and how they can or cannot depend on each other in certain areas creatively.

She was talking about Will's journey to teach his son acting, like hunting and how difficult it was as mom to watch.  He's eleven and there needs to be balance and they as a family had to find that.

At the end of the show Oprah showed a clip of the movie "Seven Pounds" which stars Will Smith.  It's the story about a man who kills seven people while texting and driving.  She got the Smith family to sign her petition which started in January of 2010 to raise awareness against texting and driving.  A really great cause!

One of my favorite Oprah (celebrity) shows to date.  The Smith family can teach each us a little something about being parents, marriage and more.  Check Oprah.com for more details on today's and other dates being shown in her final year on television.

bye bye big mike leaves idol

Michael Lynch leaves Idol Tuesday May 11, 2010

Okay I have not posted much on my shows this year because between doing product reviews, being totally ill all the time with something the doctors can't find and being with the boys.  It's been busy to say the least.  But I am watching.  Idol, Grey's, Private Practice, Ellen, CSI, Buffy, Glee, Biggest Loser and movies when I can fit them in.

So what do I think about Idol this year?
I think I luvvvvv him below (yum yum)

I pegged the winner from day one and as always chose my favorites coming out of the starting gate during Hollywood week which are Lee Dewyz and Crystal Bowersox.  I love their voices, both of them give me gooseflesh (yucky word I know) but it's true.

Lee reminds me of a young Bruce Springteen whom yes I grew up listening to and loving and he is one of Idols best performers ever.  He already has 2 cd's out and he is getting better and better each week with his stage performance.

And Crystal with her soulful Tracy Chapman singing and playing can really rock a guitar.  They are the two who I pegged from the begining to be in the bottom two going for the Idol crown.

Who do I want to win?

Lee of course.

There is just something about him.  He's shy but man really really good and I could listen to him sing for hours.  He is unique and yes his voice is raspy but there is something about him when he's singing and how he changes up the songs to make them current which I love.

So tonight it was no surprise when getting down to the bottom three who was going to be going home.  Big Mike whose voice I also love but did not ever strike me as an American Idol went home.  I'm sad to see him go and know he will have a career in the music industry.  It was time for him to leave.

In his wake Mike leaves Casey James, Crystal and Lee to fight it out for the top two spots next week.  Again I hope Lee wins but if Crystal wins I wouldn't be upset because I love her, too.  And Casey has definitely got a career in country music.  Crystal is a single mom of a cute boy and it would be nice to see her future change also.

I will say this Lee and Crystal could sing together easily and I would buy either of their albums and it would be nicer if they sang together.  They sang a duet on Tuesday's show and it rocked.  Watch below.

We'll have to see.

Whose your favorite idol?
