Kate Spanks Leah! Do you Spank? / Sited and Blogged

Kate Spanks Leah! Do you spank? | Sited and Blogged

Shared via AddThis

My response to this story: Ahhh love this post! Simple reply: It's easier to judge when you aren't the one on the chopping block eh? Every little thing she does is looked at and I feel her response is just, what parent hasn't perhaps lost their temper once or twice even quickly when they should have maybe approached the situation differently. Nobody is perfect, I sure as heck ain't. I made my son eat his boogers after he picked his nose. Is that child abuse? I know I'm gross but hey if you pick it you eat it lol!
What do you think?
Would you spank your child in public with cameras watching?

Heck I give time outs in the grocery store. Sit down, middle of the aisle time-outs when Pickle-boy breaks things or doesn't listen or throws a fit.
He gets embarrassed when everyone is watching him and having to walk around him. I ignore the scolds I get from elderly people who can't even put on their underwear by themselves telling me that is wrong to do that.

Kids don't come with manuals. There is no (on) off button, God I wish! They are unpredictable, expensive, untidy, rude and cheeky at times and each stage is different as is each child. I've had jobs and coworkers where I didn't believe they were doing their job correctly but I still had to go to work and do my job, the way I did it each and every day.

Parenting is similar... it's a job and sometimes a hard one at that.

small talk 6: things he deserves

With Father's Day just around the corner this week's Small Talk Six belongs to dad.

Each week you post (based on topic) which you can find over at MomDot.com 6 pictures, 6 items, 6 whatever to best explain the weeks theme.

This weeks Small Talk Six Topic: Six Things That The Husband of your Children Deserve to have.

Now as you know my husband has a brain injury and basically forgets everything (mostly) each and every day. But despite those challenges he's still an amazing father and husband and we love him for everything he gives to us.

1.) All the memories his brain will allow him to remember to make it easier for him and not so down on himself.

2.) Our love which we try to show and give to him each and every day with hugs and kisses.

3.) His RX8 car which he salivates over each time he sees it.

4.) To win or have some sort of money land on him so that he could treat himself to something. Ever since we married he has never once blinked at handing over his disability check each month as contribution to our family for food and bills. He has also never asked for anything in return.

5.) A trip to Scotland. Corky is Scottish and loves his heritage. He has always wanted to go to Scotland and take the kids and I to visit his family castle (The Shaw) clan, his ancestors burial grounds and see the roving hills and green pastures that make him dream.

6.) Big Father's Day breakfast with all his favorites (bacon, eggs, potatoes and toast) and a day filled with peace and quiet where he can sit and watch sports, play the PS3 and do no chores all day long.

Note: Number six is only what he deserves NOT ... I repeat NOT what he will be getting as this is a blog of thoughts and not acts of kindness bestowed by myself or my children upon their father on his special day. You still have to do dishes lol!
HAPPY FATHER'S DAY CORKY... WE LOVE YOU!

friday frustrations: dr. phil the return of jeremy

Ahhh TGIF everyone!

So yeah I'm hanging out at home today, after going to Jay's Sports Day at school. I'm feeling good about things, luving my boys and enjoying the day despite the drizzle that seems to be looming around us.

We don't often watch afternoon television, and especially not Dr. Phil, at least not anymore as I'm always busy on Twitter or here.

But I saw he was having on Jeremy and I remembered this story from a few years back about a little girl named Kaylee (his daughter) accused him of molesting her and hurting her.

Now Jeremy denied all allegations and still to this day denies them, despite failing a polygraph test which clearly identifies him as a pedophile and states he is lying.

So Dr. Phil did a recap on what has happened in the past two years since the story first broke. And Jeremy was arrested! They found child porn on his computer and the judge gave him like 180 days in jail, 500 community hours of service and like 200 days on house arrest. He also has to register as a sex offender and is not allowed to be around any children under the age of seventeen.

This frustrated me. Not because I wasn't happy that at least some justice was served. I just DON'T get IT! I don't get how someone can hurt their child or any child in such a malicious, disgusting and perverse manner. I don't get it.

When I was younger, like five. I was molested by our babysitter. He forced me to perform fallacio on him, pull down my pants and I'm sure other things to which thank God my memory blocked out.

Now it really messed me up for a very long time. When I hit puberty I had a very hard time with anger issues, boys and my feelings of depression. My parents tried hard to get me help but I refused to talk about it I guess; I'd suppressed the memories so deeply I thought mentally there was something wrong with me. And this lasted well into the first several years of my long term relationship with Jay's father.

It strikes me so that anyone could harm a child this way, let alone have sex with them. I mean it's not like a child can or will get anything out of the experience except for torture, pain and years of heartache.

Kaylee is apparently doing so much better now that her father is out of the picture says mom Kirsta who has her daughter seeing a psychologist to help her through this nightmare her father apparently put her through.

oprah special amazing dads: matt, liz and maddie

So I'm watching Oprah when I hear about this amazing father named Matt who went through the worst loss of his life.

His wife Liz was pregnant and they were due to expect the most precious joy, the birth of his baby girl when suddenly in a painful twist of events, Liz was taken from them.

Liz suffered with a blood clot that nobody knew she had and her death was instantaneous. Matt suddenly found himself a widower, alone and helplessly raising his newborn baby girl Maddie.

With no time to grieve he jumped right in to fatherhood/mommyhood and learned the difficulties many of us have gone through.

When Liz had Maddie; Matt started a blog to show family and friends they were both doing alright. And after Liz's passing Matt continued the blog, talking about fatherhood, the struggles and his pain over losing his best friend and partner of 12 years.

We've all struggled through hard times and blogging can help. It's great to see Matt sharing his thoughts and feelings on what it's like to raise a baby girl and parenthood. READ IT (MATT'S BLOG) HERE.

It's an amazing blog with helpful information and parenting advice, heartfelt emotion and love toward the wife he lost and the love he has for Maddie his daughter.

Matt you truly are an amazing dad. Thank you for sharing your story and your feelings with all of us. Maddie will grow up and be so proud of you, and I know Liz is proud of you for all you've accomplished.

bury your secrets

I just threw my mother of the year award out the window!

I'm not proud of this one but had to share it because well let's face it, the less I have on my bad girl list before I hit six feet under the more comfortable my resting place will be and less cluttered too.

So there we were at the lake with the boys and they were having a great time, as kids usually do splashing in the water, playing in the sand and enjoying the sunshine without any cares in the world.

Gamerboy jumped up and told me he had to go to the washroom and fast. His bladder often multiplies in density when he's having a good time and then suddenly like a tea kettle not watched; it boils over.

DH walked with Gamerboy to the men's room because I don't believe kids should go to the washroom alone, no matter what.  He's nine and complained he was a big enough boy to go but "NO WAY!" was I letting him, especially at a crowded lake like Aldergrove.

So there I am playing with Pickleboy in the sand when DH comes up to me with Gamer beside him doing the funky chicken dance. I asked what the matter was when DH told me the washroom was out of service.

"Oh!" I said, seeing the discomfort on Gamer's face. He looked like he was ready to climb out of his skin.

"What am I going to do?" GB asked me desperately. He couldn't go stand behind a bush. There were too many people walking around.

I gave him the option of going in going in the water and releasing his golden rays of sunshine, but even that idea grossed me out because we'd all be swimming in it. And I mean it's not like babies and kids don't pee in the water but I don't like to think of mine contributing to the sess-pool as I engage in the backstroke across the lake.

So I put up my hand and told Jake to wait a moment. I bent down and took Trace's shovel and dug a small hole in the sand and then pointed to it.

"Sit," I told him.

"What?"  GB looked at me incredulously. Then he looked at DH for support who just laughed aloud and walked away. "I can't pee in the sand, mom!"

"Why not?" I asked him. His shorts were already wet. Nobody would see. Sand gets wet all the time and besides I'd bury it when he was done.

Problem solved, right?

Well I guess he figured he had no other choice and he sat down on the hole. His eyes were like daggers at me while he did his deed as though it were my fault I forgot the Porto potty we don't have. And when he was finished I covered up the small tidy pool with sand and told him to go and wash off in the water and went back to playing with Trace.

"Mom?" he said as he stood up. The relief he felt was obvious but his expression held confusion. "What would you have done if I had to --you know--go number two?"

I paused, staring at him while I thought about it for a moment and then I replied... "Well I would have to have dug a deeper hole wouldn't I?"

Yeah I think I went down two notches that day on the perfect mom scale. But shit! What was I supposed to do? It was all I could think of at the time.

random tuesday thoughts: for better or for worse

When I met DH and finally realized I was going to get married; it was in all honesty one of the happiest days of my life.

I knew he had a brain injury. I knew he didn't remember things. I knew each night he went to sleep and woke up the next morning that everything the previous day before would be forgotten.

I knew... and I still love him so deeply.

What is scary right now is that lately his memory is getting worse. But not just that. He's been getting headaches a lot more now than he ever did when we first met. Two, sometimes three times a week they come on, causing him pain.

He goes to sleep at night and sleeps so deeply that I'm afraid he won't wake up. I am afraid that maybe something is wrong and the last thing I want is to wake up and find him beside me, unresponsive and unmoving; the kids to see him that way.

It scares the shit out of me!

So today DH and I talked about him going to see a Neurologist to get checked out; to make sure things are okay. It has to be done and he admitted to me he's a bit afraid because he, too has noticed the headaches getting worse but didn't want to say anything or forgot to tell me about it which often happens when he's dealing with emotions going on inside of him.

I know with age comes medical problems we all have to face. I'm only 35 and DH is only 38 years old. We've been five years and I guess part of me is selfish and thinks I want more time, like the couple in the photo above. I want to be them.

I want to wake up beside him every morning, even if he doesn't remember who I am anymore. I want to hold his hand when we go for a walk and lay my head on his chest to hear his heart beating like I do at night while he sleeps.

He's the best thing that ever happened to me. He's my best friend and I can't imagine my life without him. It just wouldn't be right.

It's not my job to take care of him as he grows older. It's my job to care for him.
I told him no matter what happens, I'm not going anywhere. So I'm starting a scrapbook video (like our movie 50 first dates) which is sort of us in a nutshell, just in case his memory gets worse.

I want him to know who his children are if he begins to forget. I want him to see the laughter on his face while we danced and when he took his vows. I want him to remember his friends who care about him deeply and his family who loves him. I want to be prepared for the day he wakes up and asks who we are, if that day ever comes.

For better or worse
that is what they say when you fall in love with someone you want to spend the rest of your life with. We've had our better days. Lately, right now, they are worse. But that's all a part of loving someone isn't it?
